GSI portal to be ready by next year

New Delhi, Nov 7: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) is confident that by end of 2006-07 most of the maps will be ready in GSI platform and made portal worthy.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the 41st annual meetng of GSI, Secretary Mines A K D Jadhav said here today that GSI will make available to the user the earth science database regarding the geological map on 1: 50,000 scale in digitized mode.

He said in the era of growing competition, a number of changes must be adopted in the system, process, structure and culture to get transformed to a highly effective modern organisation equipped with latest technology and equipment. The next couple of years would be the turning point in the annals of GSI in terms of its productivity as resource survey cum research organisation and creating the nation's data base on the dynamic Earth System.

The broad structure of the various activity domains of GSI has been preciously guided by the Xth plan document and proposed XIth plan of the department.

Compact Disc India Ltd to expand animation biz

New Delhi, Nov 7: Compact Disc India Ltd will expand its animation business by setting-up additional studios at Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram within the current financial year.
