Govt to amend Single Window Act soon: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7 (UNI) The Single Window Act in Kerala will be soon amended to provide immediate clearance for starting industries, State Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem said today.

Talking to media here, he said of the 1,160 applications received for starting industrial units, 1,142 had been cleared through the system.

Mr Kareem said all possible assistance would be extended to those who came forward with viable industrial projects.

Claiming that the state had a favourable situation to attract more investment in the industrial sector and also for the growth of existing units, he said the government was making all-out efforts to create more employment opportunities.

Public Sector Units in the state would cooperate with Central PSUs to start joint ventures.

Mr Kareem said the National Thermal Power Corporation had approached the state government for a tie-up with the Transformers and Electricals (Kerala) Limited (TELK) to manufacture and sell transformers.

The objective was to upgrade TELK to the standard of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

A formal agreement in this regard had been reached, he said, adding, the valuation procedures were going on and a final decision was expected in this regard at the earliest.

Mr Kareem said the state-owned Autocast at Cherthala would produce wagon components for the Railways.

Earlier, he announced awards for outstanding Small Scale Industries.

Inspector ends life

Villupuram, Nov 7 (UNI) A 55-year old Inspector of Police-- attached to Tirukoilur Circle, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver, at his office at Tirukoilur near here today. Police said the official Ananthanarayanan had assumed office following his transfer from Chennai only a few months back. On information, top police officials rushed to the spot and removed the body for post mortem. Police said investigation was under way to unravel.....

Former cricketer, Manoj Prabhakar settles matrimonial dispute

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) Former cricketer Manoj Prabhakar and his wife Sandhya today settled their matrimonial dispute before a local court here. According to the settlement reached before the court of Shri Vinod Kumar, Additional Session Judge, New Delhi, Manoj Prabhakar shall transfer the entire basement in house no R-65, Greater KailashI, New Delhi and entire property at R-10 Nehru Enclave, Kalkaji in favour of Sandhya. SC lawyer's killer, aides nabbed

Lucknow, Nov 7 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested the killer of a Supreme Court lawyer. The accused told the police he had eliminated the lawyer at the behest of the latter's cousin, who had paid Rs 5 lakh to carry out the crime. Alakh Singh was murdered in Ghaziabad on August 16, last year. As the local police could not get any break through, the probe.....
