'Goa Government playing dirty poltics Kalasa Banduri Nala project'

Bangalore, Nov 7 (UNI) Accusing Goa government of playing a 'dirty politics' with regard to Kalasa Banduri Nala drinking water project, Karnataka Minister for Water Resources K S Eshwarappa today said that the state should get the water in line with norms applied to the Haryana-New Delhi drinking water project.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that he had written a letter to the Prime Minister explaining the state's stand and its right to get drinking water to Hubli-Dharwad cities by taking up Kalasa Banduri Nala project.

The Minister also cited the supreme court verdict in connection Haryana-New Delhi water scheme.

Mr Eshwarappa alleged that the Goa Government was allowing 200 tmc of water go waste into the sea but not allowing the Karnataka to get 7.5 tmc of water for drinking purpose and also pressurising the Union Government to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court.

Regarding the Maski Nala project, he said the state government would take a permanent solution to stop frequent breaching. Chinwala Committee had given its report recommeding Rs 841 crore in phase wise for its upkeepig in the next four years, he added.

SC admits appeal by life imprisonment convicts

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court has admitted the appeal filed by 17 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment for the massacre of six dalits including the president and the vice-president of a village panchayat in Tamil Nadu. The six dalits including Murugesan, the president and Mookan, the vice-president of Melavalavu panchayat were beheaded on June 30, 1997 by the upper caste people. In all 40 accused faced trial and 23 were acquitted.....

VHP activists beat up mediapersons in Ajmer

Ajmer, Nov 7 (UNI) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists today beat up mediapersons who were covering a dispute over shifting a temple in city's Christianganj area. Mediamen, who were thrashed in the presence of police, demanded the arrest of VHP activists and suspension of Christianganj police station incharge Shankar Lal Ojha. They blocked the road for over two hours. According to information, city's Urban Improvement Trust is constructing a Gaurav Path near the Annasagar.....

Unseasonal shower with hailstone lashed many parts of region

Rajkot, Nov 7 (UNI) Many parts of the Saurashtra region today experienced unseasonal showers, reports reaching here said. Parts of Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Amreli and Rajkot districts received light unseasonal showers accompanied by hailstones, reports said. While Rajkot city received a drizzle, Bhavnagar city and other parts of the region witnessed hailstons with thunderstorm, reports added. UNI AV PM NV1505.....
