CPI(M) MP visits blast victims

Guwahati, Nov 7 (UNI) CPI(M) MP and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways Basudev Acharia today visited the Guwahati Medical College Hospital here to meet the blast victims.

Later talking to mediapersons, he said the state government should start discussions with the militant outfits without any pre-condition.

He said the problem should be solved as early as possible.

Fourteen people had died in two blasts, suspected to be carried by ULFA at two places in the city on Sunday.

The senior CPI(M) leader also demanded the government to convey a meeting of all political parties to discuss the matter.

Novelist Padmanabhan gets 'Thapasya' puraskaram

Yoga education not mandatory in K'taka schools

Hubli, Nov 7 (UNI) The Karnataka Government today clarified that it has not made yoga education compulsory in primary and secondary schools. In an official release here, State Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti warned of stringent action against those institutions issuing 'Yoga certificates' to teacher candidates taking money from them, stating that it was compulsory. Two killed in unseasonal rains, may continue for two days

Ahmedabad, Nov 7 (UNI) Two people were killed when lightning struck them in Hansod village of Ankleshwar after unseasonal rains followed by hailstorm lashed several parts of Gujarat today. The victims were working in their fields when they were struck by lightning. Unseasonal rains were also reported in Anand district and Ankleshwar town besides Tarapur, Anklav, Khambhat and Borsad.
