Congress MPs boycott Modi's meet

Ahmedabad, Nov 7 (UNI) Congress Members of Parliament from Gujarat boycotted an all-party MPs meeting called by Chief Minister Narendra Modi here today.

The Congress MPs alleged that the meeting was called with an ''ulterior motive'' rather than to discuss vital issues pertaining to the state that needs to be raised during the Winter Session of the Parliament.

The Congress MPs -- Naran Rathwa, Jiva Patel, Virji Thummar, Harisinh Chavda and Vikram Madam -- alleged that they were not provided adequate time to prepare for the meeting.

Congress spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil, speaking to reporters here today, said the Congress MPs had stepped out of the meeting in protest soon after it started.

To a question Mr Gohil alleged that the State Government had failed to appreciate the Centre's increased assistance to Gujarat.

The Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India will extend their support to traders in their agitation against octroi, he said in response to another question.

Chennai, Nov 7 (UNI) Priyanka Kumari of Jharkhand, with a clean slate of six points has taken the sole lead in the Sri Ramachandra Medical College-Ramco Group-CPCL 20th National Chess Championship for Boys and Girls at the college premises here this evening. Close behind the undisputed leaders are a trio Michelle Catherine, Srinidhi Nagarajan (both Tamil Nadu) and Mahaswetha Kumar (Assam) with five points each. More wants Australian board apology for misbehaviour with Pawar

Vadodara, Nov 7 (UNI) Former chief selector Kiran More today emanded apology by Australian cricket board for its players misbehaviour with BCCI president Sharad Pawar during the Champions Trophy final prize distribution ceremony in Mumbai on Sunday. Zidane urges hard work for Asians to reach European level

Dhaka, Nov 7 (UNI) Soccer superstar Zinedine Zidane today offered words of encouragement to players from Asian countries including Bangladesh, saying that if they work hard there were nothing to stop them from attaining the European standard in future. ''If footballers of Asia including Bangladesh work hard, they will be able to achieve the European standard within a certain period.
