Bypoll for two LS, 11 assembly seats on Dec 4: EC

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) Byelections will be held on December 4 for the Bobbili and Karimnagar Lok Sabha seats from Andhra Pradesh and 11 assembly seats spread over ten states, the Election Commission announced today.

The assembly constituencies comprise Roing-ST (Arunachal Pradesh), Manihari (Bihar), Kota (Chattisgarh), Chamundeshwari (Karnataka), Thiruvambadi (Kerala), Pandhana-SC (Madhya Pradesh), Daryapur and Chimur (Maharashtra), Rongjeng-ST (Meghalaya), Dungarpur (Rajasthan) and Islampur (West Bengal).

Nominations will open with the issue of notifications on November 10, while the last date for filing papers is November 17. Scrutiny will be done on November 18 and the last date for withdrawal is November 20.

Counting will be taken up on December 7 and the election process would be completed before December 9.

SC directs abattoir committee to file assessment report soon

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the project committee to file its assessment report soon regarding the new estimated cost of modernised slaughterhouse coming up at Ghazipur in East Delhi. A Division Bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhan, S B Sinha and G P Mathur further directed the MCD to release an additional sum of Rs 12 crore to the contractor who is constructing the modernised slaughterhouse, which would soon replace.....

Uphaar theatre victims denied representation

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Uphaar Tragedy Victims' Family Association was today denied representation in a city court hearing the case. The defense, representing the Uphaar theatre owners, questioned their locus standi in the case. Although senior counsel KTS Tulsi's decision to appear for the victims had not been objected earlier. Zaheera's petition to be heard in open court next week: SC

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed that the petition filed by a key prosecution witness in the Best Bakery case Zaheera Sheikh, seeking exemption from paying the fine of Rs 50000 imposed by the apex court, will be heard in open court next week.
