American Express launches Platinum Club

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) Targeted at the emerging affluent consumer segment, depending on the life style of individual, credit card company American Express today launched 'The Platinum Club', available for a lifetime foundation fee of Rs 50,000.

The high income groups earning more than 1,00,000 dollars will be the members of the club and will receive the new American Express Platinum Credit Card.

''There are about one million high spending affluent in India and at a 25 per cent growth, their numbers are increasing rapidly. They typically spend three times more than the average consumer on travel and dining out,'' American Express Senior Vice President ASEAN and South Asia Atul Mathur told reporters here.

With a annual credit spend cosumers of about Rs 3,60,000 which is 10 times that of the average consumer - these consumers have an interest to use credit cards, Mr Mathur added.

The member benefits are grouped under four pillars - Platinum Gourment Club, Platinum Travel Club, Platinum wellness club and Platinum Golf Club, in addition to the powerful American Express Membership rewards programme.

The billing rates on credit card are at 40 per cent.

The company has already signed with 16,000 merchants to make the card accessible in diffferent corners of the world and targets to be number one player in premium segment in the coming years, Mr Mathur said.

American Express has partnered with Kingfisher Airlines, The Taj Group of hotels and more than 250 bouquets establishmnets including India's restaurants, retail stores and spas.

Membership of the platinum club will automatically provide members with access to the Platinum Gourmet Club, Platinum Travel Club, Platinum Wellness Club and Platinum Golf Club.

The combination of clubs with the partnered companies will offer the members rewards and privileges at some of the most popular restaurnts, spas and golf events in India.
