2,950 dengue cases in national capital

New Delhi, Nov 7: One more dengue patient has died in AIIMS even as the total number of the viral disease cases in the capital has risen to 2,950 during the past 24 hours, officials said today.

Seven-year-old Ravi Kumar, a resident of Saidullah area of Delhi, succumbed to the dengue fever yesterday at the institute.

The dengue death toll in Delhi now stands at 59.

The officials said of the total number of cases reported during the past 24 hours till 1000 hrs this morning, 1808 are from Delhi alone.

In AIIMS, two fresh cases were admitted and 15 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours. The total number of dengue patients undergoing treatment in hospital now stands at 84, AIIMS Medical Superintendent Dr D K Sharma said.

Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri during a meeting to review the dengue situation in the capital instructed MCD and NDMC to intensify fogging operations.

''Vehicle mounted fogging machines will now make extra rounds to cover maximum areas,'' he said.

Dr Shastri also asked the Health Department, MCD and NDMC to work in close co-ordination.

So far the Central Zone with 315 cases, Shahdara(North) with 280 cases and Shahdara (South) with 201 cases are the worst affected areas in Delhi.

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Uphaar Tragedy Victims' Family Association was today denied representation in a city court hearing the case. The defense, representing the Uphaar theatre owners, questioned their locus standi in the case. Although senior counsel KTS Tulsi's decision to appear for the victims had not been objected earlier. New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed that the petition filed by a key prosecution witness in the Best Bakery case Zaheera Sheikh, seeking exemption from paying the fine of Rs 50000 imposed by the apex court, will be heard in open court next week. Cong demands MP Advocate General's ouster

Bhopal, Nov 7 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress Legal Cell today accused the state's Advocate General Ravinandan Singh of affecting the working of the High Court and submitted a memorandum to Governor Balram Jakhar demanding Mr Singh's dismissal.
