Naval orchestra band enthralls Mysoreans

Mysore, Nov 3 (UNI) After a gap of eight years, the Central Band of the Indian Navy enchanted music lovers in the city of palaces, last night.

The Mysore Music Association and Rotary Club of Mysore organised the three-hour musical treat with an ensemble of 86 Navy men, who captivated the audience with classical, martial, Western classical, pop, jazz and fusion music. Connoisseurs of music were mesmerised by Capt P C George's rendition of 'Entharo Mahane Bhavalu' of Thyagaraja in fusion, L Manoj's Hindi songs as a tribute to celebrated Bollywood film personality Raj Kapoor, Vocal Carribean disco by A Y Chothe, Capt George's tri service song 'Desh Rakshak' and a continuous medley of solos, duets and light popular music.

The Mumbai-based naval band, headed by Capt George, was the largest orchestra group in the country with 145 musicians and have performed in over 29 countries.

Timex eyes 50 pc growth during current fiscal

Indo-German film festival in Bangalore from Nov 17

Bangalore, Nov 3 (UNI) The third edition of the Indo-German Film Festival will be held in the city for seven days from November 17, with the screening of the best of films produced in India and Germany, Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore, Director Evelin Hust said today. CNR Rao honoured by The Institute of Physics, London

Bangalore, Nov 3 (UNI) Renowned scientist C N R Rao, National Research Professor and Linus Pauling Research Professor of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, was bestowed with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship by The Institute of Physics, London.
