Website created to popularise Hampi Utsav

Bellary (Karnataka), Nov 2: In a bid to popularise Hampi Utsav on a massive scale, the district administration has created a website, detailing the various cultural programmes and activities organised as part of the three-day festival, beginning tomorrow.

District administration sources said the website, www.kar.nic.in/hampi, created by the State Information Centre, Bangalore, in association with the district computer department and National Information Centre (NIC), Bellary, would be maintained by the district administration.

A website for the Bellary district had been created by the Zilla Panchayat. The site, www.bellary.nic.in, containing details about the activities of the district, would become operational from November 13, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Tourism and Textiles Minister B Sriramulu inaugurated a Kannada film festival in Hospet to mark the Hampi Utsav. Various Kannada classics like 'Sri Krishnadevaraya', 'Kaadinabenki', 'Gandugali Kumaara Raaja' and 'Raama Shyaama Bhaama' would be screened as morning shows in four cinemas in Hospet for three days.

Bangladeshi arrested for overstaying

Madikeri, Karnataka, Nov 2 (UNI) A Bangladesh citizen has been arrested on the charge of overstaying in the country, yesterday. According to police, Mohamed Hasim Tulakdar, a native of Cholkali village in Chottagray district of Bangladesh, had come to the picturesque Kodagu district with a tourist visa valid till June 16 to attend the funeral of his Indian wife Sahin's mother. SC to hear on urgent basis prisoners' pleas sent from jail

New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) The Supreme Court from now onwards shall hear on an urgent basis all petitions sent from jail by the prisoners.
