Water supply schemes being remodeled, says CM

Shimla, Oct 18 (UNI) Expressing concern over large scale environmental and ecological damage in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said his government was formulating a master plan for soil conservation to maintain the ecological balance.

Addressing a public meeting at Chakloo in Chamba district after inaugurating Rs 57.20 lakh lift water supply scheme, he said his government had ordered the augmentation and remodeling of all the water supply schemes to meet the drinking water supply needs of the people of the state.

Mr Singh said the water supply schemes with reduced water discharge would be remodeled to augment the drinking water supply schemes and meet the drinking water needs of the people.

He said the developmental activities in the state had gained momentum since his government came to power on March, 2003, adding that his government was committed for the balanced development of all the areas.

Mr Singh also announced the up-gradation of GMS Kutdeh to Senior Secondary School and primary school at Jaila to middle school.

K'taka Governor cautions people against dangerous crackers

32 absentee officials suspended in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 18 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government today suspended another batch of 32 officials in Ananatnag district for being absent from duty, an official spokesman said. District Development Commissioner Anantnag G A Peer placed the 32 officials under suspension for their unauthorised absence from duty during a surprise inspection of Achabal and Shangus blocks. The suspended officials include 14 employees of CDPO office in Achabal, 11 of BDO office in Achabal, six.....

JVD to support Marandi in Koderma bypoll: Mandal

Jamshedpur, Oct 18 (UNI) Jharkhand Vikash Dal (JVD) president Suraj Mandal today said his party would support Babulal Marandi in the Koderma Lok Sabha bypoll to be held on November 6. ''As both the Congress and BJP have been reduced to parties of 'corruption', the JVD has decided to extend support to Independent candidate Mr Marandi,'' he said, adding that the bypoll would be crucial for Jharkhand as it would decide the next political.....
