Varanasi blast case to be heard on Nov 1

Varanasi, Oct 18 (UNI) Extending by two more weeks the judicial remand of Mohd Waliullah -- the mastermind and prime accused in March 7 Varanasi twin blasts -- a Sessions Court here today posted the high profile case for hearing on November one.

Special Judge (Essential Commodities Act) Narendra Rawal, hearing the case also gave a last chance to Waliullah to hire counsel by the next hearing, to contest his case, failing which the administration will be directed to arrange a lawyer for him.

The judge also extended Waliullah's judicial remand by two more weeks and fixed November one as the date for next hearing in the three cases -- blasts at the Sankatmochan temple and the Varanasi Cantonment Railway Station, besides the recovery of pressure cooker borne explosives from Dashashwamedh locality.

Earlier, Waliullah, lodged in the Central Jail here was brought to the District Jail amid tight security for today's hearing in the case.

At least 18 people were killed and over 100 others wounded in twin blasts that rocked the Sankatmochan temple and Varanasi Cantonment railway station within a span of 15 minutes on March 7 last.

BEST to run additional buses for Diwali, Ramzan Id festivals

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking has decided to run additional buses on various routes on the occasion of Diwali and Ramzad Id festivals. Indian farmer killed by BDR

Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) An Indian farmer was shot dead when a Bangladesh Rifles person opened fire at a village on the international border at Hili in South Dinajpur district today. IG(South Bengal) Somesh Goyal said the BDR man crossed into the Indian territory and shot at the farmer, working in field. The farmer, identified as Chintu Sardar, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital. When BSF personnel rushed to the spot on.....

Heavy rains claim three in Howrah district

Howrah, Oct 18 (UNI) Three people died when struck by lightning in Shyampur and Amta police station areas in Howrah, police today said. Police said the victims were residents of Sarada and Tajpur villages. The rains have affected several villages in the district.
