Udupi, Oct 18 (UNI) The Karnataka Gamaka Kala Parishat has proposed to hold State-level Gamaka Sammelan at Koodalasangama in Bellary district, its President Dr Krisha Kolhara Kulkarni announced today.
Inaugurating the first Udupi district Gamaka Sammelan here, he said that to popularise Gamaka (art of recitation of folk poems) among the younger generation and commemorate Suvarna Karnataka celebrations, the Parishat had planned to organise Karnataka Ekikaran Geete Competition for primary and high school students.
Besides, it would also hold a three-day workshop on Gamaka training to Kannada teachers of primary and high schools in all 27 districts, he added.
Deploring the lack of proper initiative from both the Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) and the Education department to pressurise the Government to include Gamaka in the curriculum of primary and high school, Dr Kulkarni said the Parishat would write to the Education Minister in this regard. The Parishat would not hesitate to launch a stir to press the demand.
Development of art of Gamaka would inspire and inculcate interest among the youth on Kannada literature and poems, he added.
