Sexual assault case against ex-SP

Jammu, Oct 18 (UNI) Police today registered a case against a retired Superintendent of police (SP) for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman police constable in 2000, official sources said.

Following a directive from Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (JKSHRC) on the complaint of the alleged victim, Chhanni Himmat police filed a sexual assault case against former SP Choudhary Chirag Din, sources said.

The woman police constable, in her complaint to the Commission, accused her senior officers of not taking any action against the SP, who retired from the service in 2005, they added.

Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) The Congress and the Trinamool Congress today jointly staged an agitation in protest against acquisition of multi-crop land at Singur for Tata Motors' small car project. Addressing the demonstrators, Trinamool Congress Legislature Party leader Partha Chatterjee gave a clarion call to wage a ''holy war'' against the government policy in order to safeguard farmers' interests. Govt to table Banking Regulation Bill in winter session: Bansal

Srinagar, Oct 18 (UNI) Security forces arrested a militant and an extortionist and seized arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today. He said the Army apprehended a militant and seized two hand grenades during a search operation at Chek-e-Raithan in central Kashmir district of Badgam today. Police also arrested an extortionist at Qazibagh in south Kashmir's Anantnag district today. He intruded into the house of Muneer Ahmad.....
