Saudi Arabian delegation to visit India next month

Dubai, Oct 18 (UNI) A high-level delegation from Saudi Arabian Education Ministry will visit India from November 6-10 to finalise a deal that would allow Saudi students to pursue higher education under a special scholarship programme, official sources said today.

Saudi Higher Education Minister Dr Khaled Al-Anqari will lead a senior-level delegation to New Delhi within the framework of the 'Delhi Declaration' signed during the visit of Saudi King Abdullah to New Delhi on January 26.

The visit is in response to an invitation from Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh, who visited Saudi Arabia in May this year, Arab News reported.

An Education Ministry spokesman said Saudi Arabia recognised India's strength in the field of higher studies, especially in IT, scientific research and technical education.

He said the delegation includes Deputy Minister of Higher Education for International Cooperation Dr Abdullah Al-Moajel and the presidents of King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran and King Khaled University in Abha, Arab News reported.

14-year-old boy commits suicide

 Puducherry, Oct 18: A 14-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by jumping infront of Puducherry-Chennai express train here today morning. According to police one U Bharathan, an eight standard student of a private school at Kombakkam near here, took the extreme step because his father scolded him daily for his laxity on studies.The body had been send for post mortem, police added.Meanwhile, Narayansami(42), a police constable attached to the D Nagar police station, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself.....

Police officer shot dead by bank robbers

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) A police sub-inspector was shot dead and a head constable critically injured by bank robbers in Navi Mumbai today. The Rabale police station received a telephone call informing the police about four to five armed miscreants in the process of looting the Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank at Sector Seven, at Airoli, Navi Mumbai police control room said.
