Rain likely in southern states

Pune, Oct 18 (UNI) Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in south Tamil Nadu and at a few places in north Tamil Nadu.

They are also likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Dry weather will prevail over the sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat state, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema and north interior Karnataka.

Day temperatures were appreciably to markedly above normal in Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat state, Konkan, Goa, appreciably above normal in Assam, Meghalaya, Orissa, Jharkhand and east Rajasthan.

The temperatures were above normal in Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, west Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and coastal Andhra Pradesh. They were below normal in south Tamil Nadu and were normal over the rest of the country.

Night temperatures were appreciably to markedly above normal in Haryana, north Madhya Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan. They were appreciably above normal in Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, while above normal in west Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Saurashtra, Kutch, Chhattisgarh, Rayalaseema, in parts of Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka and in remaining parts of Rajasthan. The temperatures were normal over the rest of the country.

Very light rains had occurred at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya and Gangetic West Bengal.

Rain or thundershowers had occurred at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, at isolated places in Konkan, Goa, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Kerala.

Meanwhile, dry weather had prevailed over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Gujarat state, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Cong for self-regulation by media: Singhvi
