Prof Sabharwal's death: Court rejects bail plea

Ujjain, MP, Oct 18: A district and sessions court today rejected a bail plea by four persons accused of slaying Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal on August 26 during student violence that followed postponement of an union poll at the local Madhav College.

Six accused are in judicial custody at the Central Jail here.

The Crime Investigation Department had arrested the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's then state president Shashiranjan Singh Akela, general seretary Vimal Tomar and others. A charge sheet was filed in court on October 13.

Sudheer Yadav, Pankaj Mishra, Vishal Rajoria and Hemant Dubey submitted the bail petition before Judge A K Sharma yesterday.

Advocate Kailash Nagar, representing the deceased professor's son Himanshu, said, ''the incident tarnished the teacher-student tradition and the accused are not even the college's students. The postponement of the election was affecting the ABVP.

Akela's bail plea was struck down earlier while Tomar's is yet to be filed.

Authorities deny permission for camel slaughter

Kannur, Oct 18 (UNI) A camel brought here from Rajasthan was sent to the neighbouring district of Kasargode after the authorities denied permission for its slaughter. The authorities denied permission for the slaughter after it was found that there was no proper slaughter house in the district. The owner of the animal did not possess proper license from the animal husbandry department, sources said. The authorities took action after the animal welfare.....

K'taka Governor cautions people against dangerous crackers

Bangalore, Oct 18 (UNI) Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi today cautioned the people of the State against use of dangerous fire crackers during Deepavali, stating that parents should exercise caution when their children burst crackers. ''Deepavali is the festival of light, life and laughter. In case, some are keen to use fire crackers, they should exercise caution themselves and ask others, especially children, to handle them carefully. Eyes are precious and damage to eyes.....
