Police officer shot dead by bank robbers

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) A police sub-inspector was shot dead and a head constable critically injured by bank robbers in Navi Mumbai today.

The Rabale police station received a telephone call informing the police about four to five armed miscreants in the process of looting the Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank at Sector Seven, at Airoli, Navi Mumbai police control room said.

A police team rushed to the spot. The robbers allegedly opened fire on the police party. Police retaliated, and in the ensuing gun battle, sub-inspector Babasaheb Adhav and head constable A Karade were shot at, police said.

Adhav succumbed to his injuries in the Indiravati hospital, while the condition of Karade is critical, hospital sources informed.

A massive man-hunt has been launched to nab the alleged assailants who fled in a Honda city car, police added.

Three dead in road mishap

Howrah, Oct 18 (UNI) Three people died and one was seriously injured in an accident on National Highway at Dhulagarh under Sakrail police station early this morning. The incident took place when a truck and a three wheeler collided with each other. The injured have been admitted to a hospital.
