Mizo farmers demands monitoring cell

Aizawl, Oct 18 (UNI) To ensure the funds meant for the farmers reaches them properly, the Mizoram Cultivators and Labour Union (MICLUN) has demanded to set up monitering cells in departments dealing with the farmers.

MICLUN members here today said the monitoring cell should have at least one legislator as their member.

It also demanded that the farmers should get crop insurance in the event of crop failures.

Government should also do something towards the benefit of the poor farmers, MICLUN members added.

New Delhi, Oct 18: The Supreme Court today extended till January 31 next year the date for filing affidavits by those traders who are protected by the last month notifications stating therein that they will stop the misuser if the impugned notifications were quashed by the apex court as unconstitutional.The court, however, refused to grant any relief to 44,000 traders who have filed affidavits earlier stating therein that they will stop the misuser by June 30 this year meaning.....

Surat, Oct 18 (UNI) The Surat city police's task force has arrested 13 persons including four women in two seperate cases of immoral trafficing here. ''We have arrested 13 persons including four women in two separate cases. One case is from the Kapodra area and another from the Katargam area of the city'', task force sources said today. They were arrested after a raid in two apartments in the respective areas yesterday, police added. UNI.....

Three dead in accident

Howrah, Oct 18 (UNI) Three people died on the spot and one was seriously injured in an accident early today on National Highway six at Dhulagarh under Sakrail police station. The incident took place when a truck had a head-on collision with a three wheeler. The injured had been admitted to a hospital. In another incident yesterday, red sandal wood, banned for sale, worth Rs 25 lakh had been recovered from a railway wagon carried.....
