Militant killed, policeman injured in encounter

Haflong, Oct 18 (UNI) A militant was killed and an Asom police personnel seriously injured following a cross-fire near Bongkung village in this district of Asom.

Accoring to the sources, the injured Dul Chand Baruah was admitted to the Haflong civil hospital.

The patrolling party went to visit the 7th A P Battalion camp at Migrengdisa railway station near the construction site of B G line.

While they were returning yesterday, militants suspected to be belonging D H D (Joel) group attacked the team. The Police personnel retaliated for about one hour following which the insurgents fled.

Police sources said a body belonging to the militant group was recovered from the site. The body was brought to Haflong for post-mortem. One AK 47 rifle, 130 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, a mobile handset and Rs 4000 in cash was recovered from the site. Police and army rushed to the spot and combing operation is on.

Union Bank of India Q2 net triples to Rs 194 crore

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) Union Bank of India has posted a net profit of Rs 194.16 crore for the quarter ended September 30 this year as compared to Rs 61.10 crore for the corresponding quarter a year ago, a jump of 217.77 per cent. Announcing the results, the company said its total income has increased from Rs 1,560.44 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 to Rs 1964.13 crore for the quarter ended September.....

WR to run special trains for Chhath festival

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) The Western Railway (WR) authorities have decided to run three special trains between Valsad and Patna (Rajendra Nagar) stations to clear the extra rush of passengers in view of the upcoming Chhath festival. According to an official release here today, train number 0993 will leave Valsad at 1540 hrs on October 18, 22 and 27 and it will reach Rajendra Nagar at 2305 hrs the next day.
