Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist remanded to custody

Gurdaspur, Oct 18 (UNI) A local court today remanded to police custody till October 22 a ''Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist'', Nishan Singh, who allegedly gave shelter to militants Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjit Singh Bheora and Jagtar Singh after the three had escaped from the Chandigarh's Burail Central Jail.

Nishan Singh was arrested last night at a naka in Kalanaur in the district, SSP Paramraj Singh Umaranangal here said.

The Gurdaspur district police had registered a case under sections 212, 216, 124A and 153 IPC against Nishan Singh on April onethis year following revelations that he had given shelter to Jagtar Singh Hawara and his associates after the jailbreak incident.

The SSP said Nishan Singh was also an accused in several murders and other cases registered against him during the phase of terrorism in Punjab.

Nishan Singh had once been arrested during Operation Black Thunder at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the SSP added.

Canara Bank launches debit card campaign for Diwali

Bangalore, Oct 18 (UNI) Canara Bank has launched a cash back offer scheme for its ATM-cum-Debit card holders for purchases during Diwali festival. The bank in a release here said the scheme, operational from October 15, would continue till November 13. TN Govt announces bonus for staff

Chennai, Oct 18 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today announced 20 per cent bonus for employees of Forest, Plantation and Rubber Corporations and Poombuhar Shipping Corporation. An official release here said 13,022 employees of forest, plantation and rubber corporations would benefit from the 8.33 per cent bonus and 11.67 per cent ex-gratia, which would cost the corporations Rs 454.60 lakh. Considering the financial position of the Poombuhar Shipping Corporation, only C and D Group.....

Spl trains to Bangalore/Trichy to clear festival rush

Chennai, Oct 18 (UNI) Southern Railway today announced running of special trains in the Chennai-Tiruchirapalli and Chennai-Bangalore sectors to clear extra rush of passengers in connection with Diwali and Ramzan festivals. A railway release here said the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai Egmore special would leave Tiruchirapalli at 2100 hrs on October 22 and arrive here at 0400 hrs, the next day. In the return direction, the special would leave Chennai Egmore at 2300 hrs on October 23.....
