Kanshi Ram's ashes placed at Prerna Kendra

Lucknow, Oct 18: Amid chanting of ''Buddham Sharanam Gachchami'' and slogans like ''Kanshi Ram Amar Rahe'', the urn containing ashes of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram was placed at the party's Prerna Kendra here this evening.

BSP president Mayawati placed the urn under the lifesize statue of Kanshi Ram at the Prerna Kendra in the presence of Buddhist monks and senior leaders of the party.

The urn was earlier taken on a flower-decked rath from Ambedkar maidan to the Prerna Kendra through the busy Hazratganj area where wreaths were paid to the statue of B R Ambedkar.

Thousands of people from all over the state and nearby Uttaranchal thronged the state capital to take part in the procession which was delayed for more than two hours due to late arrival of Ms Mayawati from New Delhi.

The BSP supporters were carrying playcards of Kanshi Ram and were shouting slogans.

Ms Mayawati, along with senior BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra rode on the rath carrying the urn which covered more than 10 km to reach its destination.

Heavy traffic jams occurred on most of the roads leading to Prerna Kendra and Ambedkar Maidan even as buses carrying BSP supporters tried to reach their destinations.

Police and GRP had made elaborate arrangements at the Charbagh railway station to control the crowd.
