JD (U) MLA remanded tojudicial custody

Patna, Oct 18 (UNI) A local court today remanded JD (U) MLA Narendra Kumar alias Sunil Pandey to judicial custody till November 1 in connection with an extortion case.

Pandey was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistate (CJM) of Patna today.

According to the charges of concerned case registered with Budha colony police station of Patna, Mr Pandey had demanded five percent share of the total contract value from the general manager of a company. The company is engaged in rural electrification work in different districts of Bihar.

The accused is already an under trial prisoner lodged in Aurangabad jail in connection with an extortion case.

Prof's death: Court rejects bail plea

Ujjain, MP, Oct 18 (UNI) A district and sessions court today rejected a bail plea by four persons accused of slaying Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal on August 26 during student violence that followed postponement of an union poll at the local Madhav College. Six accused are in judicial custody at the Central Jail here. Determine real 'minority institutions': HC directs Govt.

Kochi, Oct 18 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the state government to determine which private colleges in the state will come within the purview of 'minority institutions', as per the new Kerala Self-Financing Colleges Regulation Act. A division bench, consisting of Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice P R Raman, gave this direction on a batch of petitions filed by self-financing college managements, challenging the new Act. Case against BJP MLA for damaging Vidhan Sabha gate

Shimla, Oct 18 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Police has registered a case against BJP MLA Hari Narayan Saini for allegedly damaging Vidhan Sabha gate on October 4, Shimla SP AP Singh today said.
