Jain monk dies by fasting

Indore, Oct 18 (UNI) A 75-year-old Digamber Jain monk died today after having abstained from eating for about a fortnight -- he even stopped taking water for the past five days -- in accordance with the Jain practice of voluntary death through fasting.

Chint Sagar Ji Maharaj Tejkaran Jain was at the Neminath Jain shrine for some days and was being visited by several devotees. The practice, also known as 'santhara', led to a recent dispute in Jaipur and the High Court was moved.

Dehradun, Oct 18 (UNI) Eleven Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) activists have been rounded up for obstructing 'Virasat', an ongoing cultural programme being organised under the aegis of Rural Entrepreneurship for Art&Culture (REACH) here.
