Intikhab Alam named member of PCB doping inquiry committee

Lahore, Oct 18 (UNI) Former Test star Intikhab Alam has been named an expert member of the inquiry committee to look into the doping scandal involving pacers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.

According to a report in 'The Nation', former Governor of Punjab Shahid Hamid will head the committee announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

''He has been appointed as an expert member of the committee,'' a PCB official said.'' Intikhab is likely to watch the cricketers' interests in the committee and would guide it to professional affairs of the players and their needs regarding use of various drugs,'' the report said.

Shoaib and Asif were withdrawn from Pakistan's Champions Trophy squad following revelations of the duo testing positive for banned anabolic steroid nandrolone.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport reported that the committee is unlikely meet before next week.

''We know these two samples have been found to be positive, there could be various reasons for that and we want to find out what has happened,'' PCB director of cricket operations Salim Altaf was quoted as saying.

Counting halted following bomb threat

Chennai, Oct 18: Counting of votes for the elections of the Kuntrathur, Sri Perumpudur and Mangadu town Panchyats was held up for about half-an-hour following a bomb threat to a private engineering college where the counting centre was located at Kuntrathur suburb today.Official sources here said Mr Manohar, in charge of the counting centre, received an anonymous call. He alerted the police.Police rushed to the spot with a bomb detection squad and conducted a thorough search. But.....

UP, Bihar and Mah main beneficiaries under ICDS scheme

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra have emerged as the main beneficiaries of the more than Rs 2,155 crore released by the Government during April to July 2006 under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme to improve the nutritional status of the children up to six years and pregnant and nursing mothers. Among the top ten states, Uttar Pradesh received Rs 33,873.86 lakh followed by Bihar with Rs 18,526.06.....
