Indian farmer killed by BDR

Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) An Indian farmer was shot dead when a Bangladesh Rifles person opened fire at a village on the international border at Hili in South Dinajpur district today.

IG(South Bengal) Somesh Goyal said the BDR man crossed into the Indian territory and shot at the farmer, working in field. The farmer, identified as Chintu Sardar, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital.

When BSF personnel rushed to the spot on receiving the information, the BDR man had already escaped leaving behind his cap and few empty catridges, which the BSF seized.

Mr Goyal said no trouble broke out in the area following the incident.

Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) A Majumdar, an IAS officer of 1985 batch of UT Cadre, has taken over charge as Deputy Chairman of Kolkata Port Trust from October 16, 2006. NLC produces 15.56 LT of lignite during Sept

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu-based public sector company, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) produced 15.56 Lakh Tonnes (LT) of lignite, during the month of September, as against the targeted 16.5 LT. According to data released by the Ministry of Coal, the gross power generation by the company during the month was 1249.82 Million Units (MU), which was 94.61 per cent of the target of 1321.00 MU. During the month Lignite production exceeded the target.....

Union Bank of India Q2 net triples to Rs 194 crore

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) Union Bank of India has posted a net profit of Rs 194.16 crore for the quarter ended September 30 this year as compared to Rs 61.10 crore for the corresponding quarter a year ago, a jump of 217.77 per cent. Announcing the results, the company said its total income has increased from Rs 1,560.44 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 to Rs 1964.13 crore for the quarter ended September.....
