Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) As part of its drive to make the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) the 'Centres of Excellence', the Haryana government has decided to upgrade 15 more ITIs over the next three years at a cost of Rs 24 crore.

An official spokesman said the institutes to be upgraded included those in Panhera Khurd and Kushak in Faridabad, Chhachh Badli and Matanhel in Jhajjar, Kalanaur in Rohtak, Naraingarh in Ambala, Berli Kalan in Rewari, Jasana in Faridabad, Pataudi in Gurgaon and Mustafabad in Yamunanagar districts.

He said the ITIs at Hisar, Sirsa, Narwana, Rewari and Rohtak would also be declared as the Centres of Excellence during the current financial year.

The spokesman said the institutes at Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Faridabad and Gurgaon had already been upgraded by adding the trades of leather goods and footwear, instrumentation and automobiles as vocational programmes in these centres.

The main objective of upgrading these ITIs to Centres of Excellence was to produce multi-skilled work force of world standard by introduction of new multi-skilling modular courses as per the needs of industry, he said.

New training technology with close involvement of industry would be adopted. The Centres would be empowered by providing sufficient autonomy in academic, administrative, financial and management matters, he added.

This system, he said, would also be helpful in improving infrastructural facilities like buildings and equipments.

It would also assist in generating income and investment for institutional development, introducing short-term training programme for industrial or service sector personnel as per their specific requirements and building up partnership with the nearby industries and setting up of Institute Management Committees (IMCs) to make training wholly demand driven, he added.
