Elephant tramples man to death

Madikeri, Karnataka, Oct 18 (UNI) In a bizarre incident, an elephant being chased by villagers and forest personnel trampled to death a farmer at Ankanalli near Shanivarsanthe.

Police said Suresh (36) was working in his field along with his brother when an elephant and calf, fearing the drums and crackers used by the chasers, ran towards Suresh and trampled him to death on the spot on Monday. The elephant had strayed from its herd with its calf.

Kodagu Assistant Conservator of Forests Alexander presented a cheque for Rs one lakh to the family of the deceased.

Cong not to petition Kalam against Sorabjee: PCC Chief

Court convicts three in serial blasts case

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) The TADA court today convicted three persons for their role in serial blasts case that claimed 257 lives and injured more than 700 people on March 12, 1993 following the riots, which broke after the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992. The three accused -- Issaq Hajwani, his son Sikander Hajwani and Shanawaz Hajwani -- were found guilty of receiving arms training at Sandheri in Raigad.....
