Determine real 'minority institutions': HC directs Govt.

Kochi, Oct 18 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the state government to determine which private colleges in the state will come within the purview of 'minority institutions', as per the new Kerala Self-Financing Colleges Regulation Act.

A division bench, consisting of Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice P R Raman, gave this direction on a batch of petitions filed by self-financing college managements, challenging the new Act.

The court then adjourned the matter to October 26.

During the course of the arguments, the Chief Justice asked senior advocate T S Vaidyanathan, appearing for the state government, whether there was any definition of minority and minority professional colleges in the Act.

When the counsel said that this could be decided during the course of admission, the bench said that this was not enough and the government should determine which colleges would be termed as minority institutions.
