CPI opposes government decision to acquire land for SEZ's in Goa

Panaji, Oct 18 (UNI) The Communist Party of India has opposed the Goa government's decision to acquire land from common people for Special Economic Zones, claiming it would only benefit the real estate agents and builders.

The CPI,in a statement here today, expressed its anguish over the changes made in the ''regional plan'' providing for reservation of farm and forest lands for SEZ's.

''The government can acquire land only for the public purposes and doing it to benefit the private people for profiteering is not acceptable,'' the state unit secretary Christopher Fonseca said.

He had also called for excommunicating the politicians indulging in this game against the wishes of the people and urged the people to vote against them in future.

''If industries in SEZ's can be granted lavish tax exemptions, every citizen of the country should also be exempted from all taxes,''he added.
