Cop dismissed from service following conviction

Hyderabad, Oct 18 (UNI) A Head Constable had been dismissed from service by the Andhra Pradesh Government after his conviction in a trap case by the Court of Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases.

An Anti-Corruption Bureau release here today said the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Hyderabad convicted the Head Constable B Yadaiah on August three and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months and to pay a fine of Rs 100 for the offence under section-seven of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and in default, to suffer one week simple imprisonment.

The Special Judge had further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year and to pay a fine of Rs 100 for the offence under section 133 (2) read with section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and in default, to suffer one week simple imprisonment. Both the sentences were ordered to run concurrently.

The Cop, who was dismissed from service on October nine this year, was trapped by the officials of ACB on 22-10-1999, when he demanded and accepted bribe Rs 1800 from the complainant.

ABVP burn effigies of Afzal

Guwahati, Oct 18 (UNI) The Asom ABVP today burnt effigies of Mohd Afzal and demanded that he be hanged to death and the President should not pardon him as he was anti national and involved in the attack on Parliament. Hundred of ABVP activists gathered before the Diglipukhuripar and burnt the effigy. Mohammed Afzal was supposed to be hanged on October 20 and his petition for mercy would be discussed in the next 24.....

DCHFC presents dividend cheque to Lt Governor

New Delhi, October 18 (UNI) Delhi Lt Governor, BL Joshi was presented a dividend cheque of Rs 3.02 crore by Deepchand Sharma, chairperson of the Delhi Co-operative Housing Finance Corporation Limited, (DCHFC) at Rajniwas today. The Lt Governor asked the corporation to strive harder so that more government employees could have their own houses, a press release said. Jain monk dies by fasting

Indore, Oct 18 (UNI) A 75-year-old Digamber Jain monk died today after having abstained from eating for about a fortnight -- he even stopped taking water for the past five days -- in accordance with the Jain practice of voluntary death through fasting.
