Consumer Courts to dispose cases pending upto 1999 by Feb 15: HC

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Consumer Court Commissioner to dispose cases pending upto December 1999 by February 15, 2007.

A division bench comprising Justices R M Lodha and S A Bobde was hearing a public interest litigation filed by the Consumer Court Advocates Association alleging that more than 15000 cases were pending before the Consumer Court.

''Poor infrastructure is not the reason enough for such large pendency of cases,'' Justice Lodha remarked.

The court has also directed the Commissioner to file a status report on the pending cases by February 20 while the case will come up for further hearing on February 21.

Life imprisonment to two murderers

Fast track court judge Kamal Kishore Sinha found Shatrughan Bind and Manohar Bind guilty of killing their co-villager Nandan Bind. Allahabad, Oct 18 (UNI) A division bench of the Allahabad High Court today observed that if PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) intends to provide a guard of honour to an important person, prior permission of the sector DIG or PAC headquarters ought to be obtained. The Court said PAC should not be used for routine drama, cinema or circus duties and concert parties and such entertainment should be within the competence of the civil police.....
