Chandigarh-Himachal Car rally on Nov 3

Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) The fourth Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited Power Pine Forest Car rally, which is fifth leg of the Indian National Rally Championship (MAI INRC), is being organised by the MotorSportOne here from November 3 to 5.

This year the Chandigarh Administration and the Department of Tourism have consented to extend their full support to the rally.

The Rally covers a total distance of 500 km and runs mainly in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh. The participants will proceed from Chandigarh to compete on brand new rally roads around the Kumarhatti hills, Himachal Pradesh and back.

The route would have three different kinds of terrains. Depending on the terrain the drivers would select their cars. This year round there would be new cars participating in the rally. Mitsubishi Cedia, Ford Fiesta , Honda City, Mitsubishi Lancer would feature along with the all time favourites like Baleno, Esteem, Zen, Maruti 800.

In the Gypsy class there would be one lady driver, Shuchi Thakur from Mumbai. Besides these, the Army has agreed to send five teams for participation.

Asia Pacific, Asian Zone Rally Champion and four-time Indian National Champion-Naren Kumar, local heroes and National Champion Karandip Singh, Sunny Sidhu as well as Gaurav Gill and Arjun Balu would be competing at this event.

Karandip of Team MRF currently leads the Championship by one point to Gill of Team JK with Naren trailing two points behind team mate Gill in third.

The rally will be flagged off from Sector 17, Chandigarh at 12 noon on the November 3. It would be followed by a Spectator Super Special at the Kala Gram grounds. Here 1400 hrs onwards, the spectators would be able to witness rally cars competing on a two km long challenging track from close quarters.

Fortis Hospital will provide all the medical support. Only MAI homologated cars are eligible for participation.

IOC's corruption whistleblower Hodler dies at

ATHENS, Oct 18 (Reuters) Senior International Olympic Committee member Marc Hodler, who helped uncover the IOC's biggest corruption scandal, involving Salt Lake City and how it bribed members to win the 2002 Winter Olympics bid, has died in Switzerland, the IOC said today. He was 87. Hodler was the main whistleblower in the biggest corruption and bribery affair in the IOC' s 110-year history involving several of its members and Salt Lake City.....

GRSE handovers Rs 12.38 crore as dividend to Centre

Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) Garden Reach Shipbuilders&Engineers Ltd Chairman& Managing Director Rear Admiral T S Ganesshan (Retd) today presented Rs 12.38 crores cheque towards dividend for the financial year 2005-06 to Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjeeon. The payment of dividend to the Centre, as a testimony of continued good performance by GRSE over the years, which has resulted in earning the status of "Category-1 Miniratna" on September 5, 2006. GRSE is the first Defence Shipyard.....
