CBI searches residences/officials premises of NHAI officials

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) The CBI today searched seven places in the national capital, Haryana, Chandigarh and Lucknow in connection with sub standard works carried out on the National Highway no-1 after registering a case against senior National Highways Authority of India officials in the connection.

The investigating agency registered a case against NHAI General Manager (Technical) P C Arya, Project Director Nissar Ahmed, Manager (Technical) Rajender Garg and former NHAI official D P Singh for allegedly cheating, forgery and abuse of official positions that resulted in execution of sub-standard works in 2003-04 on the stretch between Panipat and Sonepat on NH-1, CBI said.

Sleuths of CBI's Anti-Corruption wing carried out searches of the residences and officials premises of these officials who were responsible for overseeing effective implementation of the works.

The officials were charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

A Ludhiana-based construction company proprietor Ashok Garg had also been named as conspirator in the case.

Police constable run over by truck

Purulia, Oct 18 (UNI) West Bengal Police constable Jairam Ojha was today run over by a speeding truck at Damda village in the district, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Prasad said. Heavy exchange of fire between BSF and BDR

Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) Border Security Force jawans and Bangladesh Rifles personnel exchanged heavy firing across the border in North Twentyfour Parganas district today.
