BJP ridicules Congress reaction to Sorabjee's comment

Hyderabad, Oct 18 (UNI) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader M Venkakaih Naidu today ridiculed the Andhra Pradesh Government for its reported decision to petition President APJ Abdul Kalam against legal luminary Soli J Sorabjee for finding fault with the Government in the Gouru Venkat Reddy clemency case.

''The Government's decision smacked of arrogance and foolishness,'' he told reporters here.

If the Government differs with the views of Mr Sorabjee it could issue a rejoinder, but it should not entertain the idea of complaining against him before Dr Kalam or the Supreme Court Chief Justice, he opined.

Seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for allegedly forwarding the clemency petition to then Governor Sushilkumar Shinde without cabinet approval, State BJP President N Indirasena Reddy, who was also present, wanted the Government to clarify whether the petition came up before the Cabinet or not.

If it came before the Cabinet, the Government should make public the minutes of the cabinet meeting concerned, he demanded.
