Action on Iran must be "proportionate" -Russia

MOSCOW, Oct 18 (Reuters) International action over Tehran's nuclear programme must be in proportion to the real situation in Iran, RIA news agency today quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying.

''It is necessary to act on Iran but that action should be in direct proportion to what is really happening,'' the agency quoted Lavrov as saying.

''And what is really happening is what the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) reports to us. And the IAEA is not reporting to us about the presence there of a threat to peace and security.'' Reuters DKA DB1348

Counting halted following bomb threat

Chennai, Oct 18: Counting of votes for the elections of the Kuntrathur, Sri Perumpudur and Mangadu town Panchyats was held up for about half-an-hour following a bomb threat to a private engineering college where the counting centre was located at Kuntrathur suburb today.Official sources here said Mr Manohar, in charge of the counting centre, received an anonymous call. He alerted the police.Police rushed to the spot with a bomb detection squad and conducted a thorough search. But.....

UP, Bihar and Mah main beneficiaries under ICDS scheme

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra have emerged as the main beneficiaries of the more than Rs 2,155 crore released by the Government during April to July 2006 under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme to improve the nutritional status of the children up to six years and pregnant and nursing mothers. Among the top ten states, Uttar Pradesh received Rs 33,873.86 lakh followed by Bihar with Rs 18,526.06.....

Job termination of Indian workers after due deliberation

Dubai, Oct 18 (UNI) Under a new labour protocol to be signed between Qatar and India, job termination of Indian expatriate workers can only be done after due deliberation, a visiting Indian minister said. The protocol will also ensure that the worker gets the full benefits of the contract, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said after talks with local officials.
