ABVP burns effigies of Afzal

Guwahati, Oct 18 (UNI) The Asom ABVP today burnt effigies of Mohd Afzal and demanded that he be hanged to death and the President should not pardon him as he was anti-national.

Hundred of ABVP activists gathered before the Diglipukhuripar and burnt the effigy.

Mohammed Afzal is supposed to be hanged on October 20 and his petition for mercy would be deliberated upon in the next 24 hours as the President only returned to the capital last night after a week's tour to South India as well as North East India.

Even as the BJP and the Congress are demanding that Supreme Court's order for capital punishment should be final, but Kashmir valley based parties are demanding that he be pardoned.

SBS makes allround growth in half-year results

Ahmedabad, Oct 18 (UNI) The State Bank of Saurashtra (SBS) has made allround growth with good performance in various areas during the first half year of 2006-07, says Mr S K Singh, managing director, SBS, here today.
