15-member badminton team to represent K'taka

Bangalore, Oct 18 (UNI) The Karnataka Badminton Association today announced a 15-member team to represent the State in the 20th Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship, scheduled to be held at Pondicherry from October 24 to 30.

Boys: U-16 Singles: Aditya R Prakash (direct entry), Prakash Jolly, Sonic Prabhu Desai. Doubles: Pratab Jolly/Pratap Menon.

U-13: Singles: Vinay Hari, Shashank Menon. Doubles: Himanshu Kotbagi/Rajas Jawalkar.

Girls: U-16: Singles: Shruthi Sridhar, Ankita Ashok. Doubles: Shruthi Sridhar/ Adfa Taqui.

Microsoft, Orange launch Windows Live in France

PARIS, Oct 18 (Reuters) Microsoft and France Telecom said on Wednesday they would launch the U.S. software giant's MSN instant messaging system on mobile phones in France in December. ''This launch is important for both France Telecom and Microsoft,'' Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said in the statement. The companies said the service, the first offering convergence between PC-based and mobile-based instant messaging services, would also be deployed in Britain and Spain in 2007......

Dow climbs above 12,000 on solid tech earnings

NEW YORK, Oct 18 (Reuters) The Dow Jones industrial average rose above 12,000 for the first time in its 110-year history on Wednesday on solid earnings by tech companies, benign inflation data and a rise in housing starts. Jordan jails six for plot to attack Americans

AMMAN, Oct 18 (Reuters) Jordan sentenced six Islamists today to between two and ten years in jail for plotting to kill US troops in Iraq and Americans and Israelis in Jordan. A state security court in Amman also sentenced another two suspected accomplices to ten year jail terms each in absentia on charges of belonging to a Sunni militant group called ''Al Taaefa al-Mansourah'' (the Victorious sect). The court found the Jordanian militants guilty.....
