11 child labourers freed in MP

Bhopal, Oct 18 (UNI) Eleven child labourers including ten minors, from West Bengal were rescued by the Labour department from the Sarafa area of Indore, official sources said today.

Of the 10 children from West Bengal, 5 belonged to Burdwan, three to Midnapur and one each to Hooghly and Howrah districts. They were sent back to their home districts by the Indore-Howrah Express train accompanied by Deputy Labour Commissioner Dr Vasudev Sarkar and 4 Labour Inspectors.

These children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee constituted under the provision of the Juvenile Justice Act 2000 for the rehabilitation of freed child labourers, the sources said.

The Labour Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh has also contacted his counterpart in West Bengal for the rehabilitation of these children, the sources added.

Intikhab Alam named member of PCB doping inquiry committee

US military says 9 troops killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Oct 18 (Reuters) The US military announced today the deaths of nine US troops in incidents in Iraq yesterday, including four soldiers killed when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb west of Baghdad. More than 60 US soldiers have been killed in October. More than 2,775 have died since the US invasion in 2003. Action on Iran must be "proportionate" -Russia

MOSCOW, Oct 18 (Reuters) International action over Tehran's nuclear programme must be in proportion to the real situation in Iran, RIA news agency today quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying. ''It is necessary to act on Iran but that action should be in direct proportion to what is really happening,'' the agency quoted Lavrov as saying.
