Shiv Sena activists block rail traffic in Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) Shiv Sena activists today blocked rail traffic at about half a dozen places in Punjab to protest against burning of effigies of Lord Rama, Lakshman and Hanuman in Bhai Rupa village near Bhatinda yesterday.

A report from Phagwara said that Shiv Sena district chief Sanjay Mehta, alongwith his supporters, blocked rail traffic on Phagwara-- Ludhiana rail section for ten mintues by staging dharna. A Jaipur bound train remained stranded at the Phagwara railway station for ten minutes.

The protestors demanded immediate arrest of the alleged culprits.The dharna was lifted only after the intervention of DSP Bahadur Singh of railway police.

A report from Hoshiarpur said that Sena activists blocked the Hoshiarpur-Ferozpur passenger train for a few minutes demanding arrest of the culprits.

A report from Amritsar said Shiv Sena workers tried to block a DMU on the Pathankot-Amritsar section, but they were chased away by the railway police.
