Suresh Krishna bags Jiaxing Citizen award

Chennai, Oct 4: Sundram Fasteners Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Krishna has been conferred 'Jiaxing Honorary Citizen' award by the Jiaxing Municipal People's Government, at the 26th session of the standing Committee of the Fifth Municipal People's Congress of Jiaxing on September 29, 2006.

The award, instituted in 2003, was given to foreigners for their significant contribution to Jiaxing in the areas of economy, friendship and society.

A company release here said, the award was a part of 'Nanhu Friendship Awards,' named after the lake where the Chinese Communist Party was formed way back in 1921.

Mr Krishna was earlier honoured with the 'South Lake Friendship Award' by the Mayor of Jiaxing City in 2004.

Sundram Fasteners Ltd set up a wholly-owned subsidiary named Sundram Fasteners (Zhejiang) Ltd, at Haiyan County Jiaxing City Zhejiang Province, which was engaged in manufacturing high tensile fasteners and bearing housings.

Sundram Fasteners had so far invested USD 8.5 million in the project, the release added.

Sensex trades 100 pts down in noon trade

Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) The Bombay Stock Exchange was trading almost hundred points below the previous close as the traders booked profit in the select stocks. Currently, the sensex is at 12,273.76, which is 92.63 points below the previous close of 12,366.39. Today after opening in the green by 35 points, sensex slid badly on account of heavy selling pressure and negativity continued till the late afternoon trade. Rats vs bamboo flowering, a big debate for Mizoram

Aizawl, Oct 4 (UNI) Mizos from time immemorial have believed that feeding on flowering bamboo seeds or fruits increases the fertility of rats thereby increasing their population, however, experts are of a different opinion. Several experts questioned the view at a symposium on 'Bamboo Flowering and its Consequences' here today and presented various papers on it. AIE expects 85pc load factor on M'lore flights
