Woman jumps to death with infant daughter

Jaunpur, Sep 30 (UNI) Peeved with domestic problems, a woman in Jalalpur area here allegedly jumped to death with her infant daughter in a well last night, police today said.

The incident occurred in village Purev, in which Rannu Sonkar and her 15-day-old daughter died.

Rannu's body had been fished out, while the infant's corpse could not be found, police added.

Meanwhile, the victim's parents have blamed her husband and in-laws for harrassing Rannu over dowry demands.

They claim she took the extreme step due to dowry harrassment.

Investigations were on.

Forest Minister trying to protect accused officials: Oppn

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Sep 30 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Assembly Mahendra Karma today accused Forest Minister Brijmohan Agrawal of trying to protect forest department officials involved in the 'saw-mill' scam in Raipur forest circle. In his letter to Chief Minister Raman Singh, Mr Karma has demanded verification of expenditure certificates and suspending guilty forest department officials besides registering cases of economic offence against them. Silk production to be enhanced to reduce import: Jairam

Imphal, Sep 30: Centre is planning to increase silk production in the country to reduce the cost of importing it from China, Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said here today Addressing a press conference at Raj Bhawan here, Mr Ramesh said the Chinese silk was slightly superior and India imported about 8,000 tonnes of silk every year.He also said India produces about 17,000 tonnes of silk every year and the Japan government has funded over Rs.....

Gauge conversion on Ratlam-Neemuch section

Ujjain, Sep 30(UNI) The Western Railway will stop operations on Ratlam-Neemuch metre gauge section for about four months from tomorrow due to conversion work. Commuters on this 135 Km section will have to depend on buses only till the track was changed to broadgauge. As compared to Rs 24 charged by the railway for second class travel on the route, the Road Transport Corporation has fixed the fare at Rs 71. At present, 65 buses.....
