Vaiko calls on Jaya

Chennai, Sept 30 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko called on AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa at her residence here this evening.

AIADMK Election wing secretary O Panneerselvam and Headquarters Secretary K A Sengottaiyan were present on the occasion, a party release here said.

The meeting assumed significance as this was the first time the two leaders were meeting after the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) walked out of the AIADMK-led front last week.

The DPI led by Thol Thirumavalavan quit the front, alleging that he was insulted by the AIADMK during seat sharing talks for the October 13 and 15 local body elections.

Baghdad under curfew after plot suspect arrested

Isaac becomes hurricane in Atlantic

MIAMI, Sep 30 (Reuters) Tropical Storm Isaac became the fifth hurricane of the Atlantic season today but remained far out in the Atlantic Ocean and was no immediate threat to any land. Crash site of Brazil passenger jet found in Amazon

BRASILIA, Brazil, Sep 30 (Reuters) Airborne searchers today found the wreckage of a Brazilian passenger plane that crashed a day earlier in Amazon jungle with 155 people on board and the chances of anyone surviving were slight, officials said. The brand-new Boeing 737-800 operated by Brazilian low-cost carrier Gol probably plunged into the ground nose first after colliding with a smaller plane, the head of Brazil's airport authority Infraero said.
