Agartala, Sep 30 (UNI) Tripura government has demanded the Rail Ministry to immediately start the expansion works of rail lines upto Sabroom in south district for the state's development.

The Rail Ministry, in a letter to the Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey recently said the rail line upto Sabroom would not be profitable.

Reacting strongly to the letter Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that rail lines shoud be extended to the southernmost sub-division of Sabroom.

Expressing anger, Mr Sarkar reiterated the state's demand for rail connectivity from here to Sabroom along with introduction of 'cargo handling facility' at the Agartala Airport, sources said.

Mr Sarkar said, ''The state's scenerio had changed of late in all fields.'' People from all over the country are coming to the state for job oppurtunities, as many industries have been set up and the situation of power supply had also been improved, sources said.

'' The rail ministry should think about its profit after expansion as demanded and it should be broadgauged,'' Mr Sarkar stressed.

The National Highway here should also be expanded to pave way for using Chittagong port in Bangladesh connecting Sabroom for better trading purpose.
