Temple ceiling develop cracks

Srirangam (Tamil Nadu), Sep 30: The ceiling of a small gopuram (tower) at the East Gate of the historic Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple here developed cracks during work on underground drainage system.

Temple sources told UNI today the cracks appeared during work on the drainage system being implemented by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board.

As an immediate measure, scaffoldings have been erected to prevent further damage to the structure.

Steps would be taken to strengthen the East Gate, which was the only outlet for the sewage system, they added.

Following this, the TWAD has now decided to adopt the trenchless techniques for any work around the temple in the future.
