State Bank of India co-sponsors 8th Raid-de-Himalaya car rally

Mumbai, Sep 30 (UNI) The 8th 'Raid-de-Himalaya 2006' is being co-sponsored by State Bank of India. SBI with its wide network, hassle free and customer friendly auto loans product has played an important role in fueling auto finance market.

In the last financial year it has shown a record growth in its portfolio and improved overall penetration creating a strong auto brand image, a release said.

The rally is listed on the international off-road rallies calender of the FIM, Geneva, Switzerland as one of the 12 events worldwide that make the listing.

The rally would be flagged off from Shimla from today and culminate at Manali on October 6 after passing through the most inhospitable terrains in India.

The prize distribution ceremony would be held at Manali on October 7 in the presence of local dignataries and the sponsors of the event.

Shimla, Sep 30 (UNI) The 8th Maruti Suzuki Raid de Himalayas, India's toughest and longest motor sport event, was today flagged from here by State Bank of India DGM Raj Kunwar. The seven-day event would have two independent race formats concurrently, featuring twenty-nine cars and 32 motorcycles in the ''extreme category'' and 31 vehicles in the ''reliability trial''. The rally, jointly organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports and the Himalayan Motorsport Association.....

Typhoon blows toward central Vietnam coast

HANOI, Sep 30 (Reuters) Vietnam evacuated thousands of people and halted domestic flights as Typhoon Xangsane was forecast to hit the central coast late today or early tomorrow, officials said. SAO PAULO, Brazil, Sep 30 (Reuters) Rescue planes today found the wreckage of a Brazilian passenger jet, a day after it disappeared with 155 people on board over the Amazon jungle, Brazil's airport authority said. ''The plane was found. The wreckage was found,'' Jose Carlos Pereira, president of the airport authority Infraero, told reporters.
