Rs 260 cr being spent for development in Ladakh

Srinagar, Sep 30: The Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir will be provided assistance by the World Bank to improve in agriculture, forestry, rural development and other sectors.

An amount of Rs 260 crore would be spent on these schemes, Forest and Environment Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal said at World Banks Preparation Mission review workshop of Participatory Watershed Management Project (PWMP) here yesterday.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest R D Tiwari, Daniel Semell, team leader of the World Bank team, Adalpho, sector Manager World Bank were also present.

Mr Qazi said that under Integrated Watershed Development Project, phase I and II has already launched in Jammu and Kashmir.

Now the state government has chosen Ladakh to bring it under the ambit of World Bank Mission Scheme.

The Forest Minister said that Leh and Kargil districts has a typical ecological system with harsh climatic conditions and it is the endeavor of the government to provide every facility to Ladakh to improve its flora and fauna and arrest the desertification for maintaining of ecological balance.

He said a detail discussions and interactions were held in the and areas were identified for taking schemes under the integrated watershed development programme.

Special trains to clear extra rush during festival season

Bangalore, Sept 30 (UNI) South Western Railway (SWR) today announced extension of five pairs of Special Trains for a further period of two months to clear extra rush during the ensuing festival season. Train No 0637/0638 Bangalore City-Ernakulam-Bangalore City Weekly Superfast special will leave Bangalore at 1715 hrs on Fridays and reach Ernakulam at 0430 hrs next day. On return direction the train will leave Ernakulam at 1700 hrs on Saturdays to reach Bangalore.....
