Old couple duped of 8.5 lakh by DDA engineer, accused arrested

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) A Junior Engineer (Civil) of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has been arrested for duping an old couple of Rs 8.5 lakhs on the pretext of getting them a flat.

Ata-ur-Rhman (44), who absconded after duping the couple, was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police, police said today.

The accused had taken the money from the couple through forged documents of a different flat.

When the forgery came to light Rehman gave a cheque to them which bounced, following which a complaint with the police was launched.

Passport Office to clear pending cases by next week

Kozhikode, Sep 30 (UNI) The Kozhikode Passport Office would be able to issue new passports in 35-40 days and clear all pending cases by next week, a senior officer said here today. Talking to media after a Passport Adalat, Passport Officer C K Damodaran said his department was able to curtail pendency with staff deployment even on closed holidays and summoning of additional staff from other stations. Processional deity taken in golden chariot

Tirumala, Sept 30 (UNI) Thousands of devotees witnessed the procession of the glittering 'Golden Chariot' of Lord Venkateswara here on the sixth day of the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam festival this evening. The bejewelled processional deity of Lord Malayappaswamy, along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi were placed on the chariot, which was pulled by select devotees and volunteers around the four 'mada steets' amidst chanting of 'Govinda, Govinda.' TTD nets record collection of Rs 1.90 crore

Tirumala, Sept 30 (UNI) Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) netted a record collection of Rs 1.90 crore from 1800 hours yesterday upto 1800 hours today during the Brahmotsavam at the Lord Venkateswara Temple here. The TTD, in a release here this evening, said Hundi collection alone was above Rs one crore while darshan tickets fetched Rs 20.79 lakh. Sale of prasadam including laddus netted Rs 13.52 lakh while the rent collection was above Rs 1.90 lakh......
