NCP intervention forces police to let off accused

Thane, Sep 30 (UNI) The Thane police today nabbed an alleged accused in a criminal case, husband of a NCP corporator from the city, who was absconding for a long time and evading arrest, during a Janata Durbar organised by Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik (NCP) at Gadkari Rangayatan here.

According to reports, later in the evening, the police had to give up and let off the nabbed alleged accused following intervention by NCP heavyweights in the city.

According to reports, the Vartak Nagar police in the city have registered an offence of dacoity against Janardhan Dudavade, husband of NCP corporator Meenakshi Dudavade, in connection with an offence that took place during the midterm elections to a ward from Vartak Nagar.

It was since October 19, the police were searching for Janardhan and finally spotted him in the Durbar and picked him up.

Fireworks explosion: death toll rises to five

Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, Sep 30 (UNI) The death toll in the explosion at a private fireworks manufacturing factory at nearby Meenampatti village yesterday has gone up to five with a 40-year-old employee succumbing to his injuries today. Police identified the deceased as C Chinnasamy of nearby Thiruthangal. Four people were killed on the spot and 16 others injured in the explosion which razed the cracker manufacturing unit to the ground. The employees were engaged in.....
