Maid flees after drugging employers

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) A 40-year-old maid fled with jewellery worth lakhs and some cash after drugging her employers in Civil Lines area of North Delhi this morning.

Laxmi allegedly laced the morning tea with drugs of her employers Siddhartha Chaddha (32), his wife Radha (26) and mother-in-law Pushpa (60) and escaped from their Yamuna Marg residence in Civil Lines with jewellery worth lakhs, according to sources.

''She also took away Rs 8,500 cash.'' The Chaddhas, who had a flourishing spare parts business, along with their mother-in-law were later admitted to the Trauma Centre in an unconscious state where they were recuperating.

The six-year-old son of the Chaddhas, Tavish, who did not take the drugged tea, was asleep at the time of the incident.

However, a senior police official refused to confirm that jewellery had been taken from the Chaddha's house.

Punjab Police Inspector convicted in murder case

Jagadhri, Sep 30 (UNI) A Punjab Police Inspector was convicted in a murder case by the Yamunanagar District and Sessions court today. Inspector Gurmeet Singh alias Pinki was convicted by District and Sessions court Judge Virender Singh on the charges of gunning down a youth named Avtar in Ludhiana on January 7, 2001. Bank loans earmarked to common man

Vuyyur (Andhra Pradesh), Sep 30 (UNI) Indian Bank Manager Ramachandra Rao today said 44 per cent of the loans extended by the bank were earmarked for common man and 18 per cent for the agricultural sector. Speaking on the subject 'Banks in the service of common man', in connection with 'Bharat Nirman public information campaign' here, he said under the 'Rythu Mitra' Scheme, small and marginal farmers were being extended loans for agriculture purposes......

Passport Office to clear pending cases by next week

Kozhikode, Sep 30 (UNI) The Kozhikode Passport Office would be able to issue new passports in 35-40 days and clear all pending cases by next week, a senior officer said here today. Talking to media after a Passport Adalat, Passport Officer C K Damodaran said his department was able to curtail pendency with staff deployment even on closed holidays and summoning of additional staff from other stations.
